Blogger Limitations

Blogger has imposed the following limitations on content storage and bandwidth, per user account
  • Number of blogs = Unlimited
  • Size of pages = Individual pages (the main page of a blog or archive pages) are limited to 1 MB
  • Number of labels = 5,000 unique labels per blog, 20 unique labels per post
  • Number of pictures (hyperlinked from user's Picasa Web Album) = Up to 1 GB of total storage
  • Size of pictures = If posted via Blogger Mobile, limited 250 KB per picture; posted pictures are scaled to 800px [citation needed]
  • Team members (those that can write to a blog) = 100

On February 18, 2010, Blogger introduced "auto-pagination", which limited the number of posts that could be displayed on each page, often causing the number of posts on the main page to be less than that specified by the user and leading to a hostile response from some users.

How to Write Great Blog Content

Step 1
Tantalizing Title- There is an unwritten 2-part rule for creating effective titles: Write to attract an audience but also keep search engines in mind. In other words, your title should have keywords in it, but should also be powerful enough to draw readers in to enjoy your conten.

For example, let's say one of your keywords is HEALTHY EATING. Your possible titles can be: Healthy Eating Made Simple or How to Conquer Healthy Eating (of course, there are many other options)- my point is to show you how to make keywords pop a little!

Step 2

Bulleted Content- Much Easier to Scan!
Bulleted Body? In such a time-starve world, what do you think people do more of...reading or scanning? Research points to scanning.

Therefore, write bulleted lists that get your point across and still allow the reader to get the concept of your article. Would you rather read 10 quick, to-the-point bullet points, or a 10-sentence paragraph?

This strategy take some time to master. However, once you have it down, you will notice an increase in time spent on your blog- despite the fact you actually shortened your article length! In other words, your reader is more interested.

Step 3

Will they forward it? Or will they not?
Content Conversion- Do you remember the last time you got a great email? What did you do with it? You probably forwarded it to your friends, right? What about the average email you received? Did you delete it? Chances are you didn't forward it.

In writing your next blog post, ask yourself this one question: Would I forward this article to my friends? If you answered YES, then your content is great! Often times, we don't put our content to the test, and the blog post doesn't end up getting forwarded.

Step 4
Keyword Strategy
Keyword Attack! Do you have a keyword strategy? If not, take the extra few minutes to research a strategy that will help your post get noticed. Personally, I keep it limited to 3 keywords that are actively being searched online.

Effective, relevant keywords are very important to getting your new post crawled by search spiders and found by readers. Be sure to do your homework on them!

Step 5
Publish it!
PUBLISH- When you are 100% satisfied with your entire blog post, it's time to make it go live. Here's a quick checklist to be certain you should click PUBLISH:
1. Misspellings- Does your blog platform have a built-in spell checker? If not, copy and paste the email into a program that has spell checker (just be sure it doesn't add any unnecessary code).
2. Keywords- Did you just write any old keywords so you can get finished? Or, did you do your research and find out what people are typing into their search bars.
3. Title Tag- Optional, but recommended. This tells search engines what your single post is about. The title tag is the first thing search engines see- so be sure to make it keyword rich, yet logical to the human reader.
4. Hyperlinks correct? Did you copy the 'http' or just the web address? I've made that mistake so many times before! Be sure you don't post a link that is dead- instant loss of credibly between you and your reader.
5. Pictures- Do your pictures link to the appropriate websites? Did you tag them properly?

Step 6
Link Build!
Link Build. Link Build. Link Build. Congrats! Your new post is live and it's time to drive traffic to it. My first recommendation is to build inbound links from other sites.
Remember the rule of thumb: One-way inbound links are more effective than link-sharing (aka link me and I'll link you back). However, sometimes it's the only option you may have- thus, making it better than no link!

Enforcement of Blogger's Content Policy

If you encounter a blog that you believe violates our content policies, please report it to us using the 'Flag Blog' link located at the top of each blog (Note: If the blog owner has hidden this link, you can still report the blog by filling out this form).
Our team reviews these flags for policy violations. If the blog does not violate our policies, we will not take any action against the blog or blog owner. If we find that a blog does violate our content policies, we take one or more of the following actions based on the severity of the violation:
  • Put the blog behind a 'mature content' interstitial
  • Put the blog behind an interstitial where only the blog author can access the content
  • Delete the blog
  • Disable the author's access to his/her Blogger account
  • Disable the author's access to his/her Google account
  • Report the user to law enforcement

Content Boundaries

Our content policies play an important role in maintaining a positive experience for you, the users. Please respect these guidelines. From time to time, we may change our content policies so please check back here. Also, please note that when applying the policies below, we may make exceptions based on artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific considerations or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.

Adult Content:
  • We do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, please mark your blog as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. Otherwise, we may put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial.

There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
  • Do not use Blogger as a way to make money on adult content. For example, don't create blogs where a significant percentage of the content is ads or links to commercial porn sites.
  • No incest or bestiality content: We do not allow image, video or text content that depicts or encourages incest or bestiality.

Child safety:
  • We have a zero tolerance policy towards content that exploits children. Some examples of this include:

Child pornography:
  • We will terminate the accounts of any user we find publishing or distributing child pornography. We will also report that user to law enforcement.

Pedophilia:
  • We do not allow content that encourages or promotes sexual attraction towards children. For example, do not create blogs with galleries of images of children where the collection of images or text accompanying the images is sexually suggestive.

Hate Speech:
  • We want you to use Blogger to express your opinions, even very controversial ones. But, don't cross the line by publishing hate speech. By this, we mean content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity. For example, don't write a blog saying that members of Race X are criminals or advocating violence against followers of Religion Y.

Crude Content:
  • Don't post content just to be shocking or graphic. For example, collections of close-up images of gunshot wounds or accident scenes without additional context or commentary would violate this policy.

Violence:
  • Don't threaten other people on your blog. For example, don't post death threats against another person or group of people and don't post content encouraging your readers to take violent action against another person or group of people.

Copyright:
  • It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. More information about our copyright procedures can be found here. Also, please don't provide links to sites where your readers can obtain unauthorized downloads other people's content.

Personal and confidential information:
  • It's not ok to publish another person's personal and confidential information. For example, don't post someone else's credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, unlisted phone numbers, and driver's license numbers. Also, please keep in mind that in most cases, information that is already available elsewhere on the Internet or in public records is not considered to be private or confidential under our policies.

Impersonating others:
  • Please don't mislead or confuse readers by pretending to be someone else or pretending to represent an organization when you don't. We're not saying you can't publish parody or satire - just avoid content that is likely to mislead readers about your true identity.

Illegal activities:
  • Don't use Blogger to engage in illegal activities or to promote dangerous and illegal activities. For example, don't author a blog encouraging people to drink and drive. Otherwise, we may delete your content. Also, in serious cases such as those involving the abuse of children, we may report you to the appropriate authorities.

Spam:
  • Spam takes several forms in Blogger, all of which can result in deletion of your account or blog. Some examples include creating blogs designed to drive traffic to your site or to move it up in search listings and posting comments on other people's blogs just to promote your site or product.

Malware and viruses:
  • Do not create blogs that transmit viruses, cause pop-ups, attempt to install software without the reader's consent, or otherwise impact readers with malicious code. This is strictly forbidden on Blogger.
